Veneering, transformation of simple parts into wood

Veneering, or veneer application, is the process of decorating the surfaces of wood-based materials using thin sheets of wood called veneer.

Veneer is categorized into planed, sawn, or rotary, depending on the type of cut. Different directions of cutting are used to obtain thin layers of wood (veneer) from the wood base for different wood species. This results in tangential, radial-tangential, tangential-end, and radial veneer.

In our factory production, we use veneer from valuable wood species. It is distinguished by its high quality, aesthetics, and artistic qualities.

Sawn veneer is used as a substrate or as a separate or auxiliary decorative element, which is most often called a lamella.

Rotary veneer is the most common type of veneer, made from alder, birch, oak, and pine. This veneer is easy to manufacture (it is removed from the wood base in a circular motion, like when sharpening a regular pencil), it is affordable, since almost all of the wood base goes into its manufacture.

Rotary veneer is widely used for the manufacture of plywood, as well as for rough veneering, preparation, and decorative surfaces.

Planed veneer is used to finish exposed elements and parts that are important for stability, clear wood grain, and aesthetics.

Planed veneer is made from valuable wood species such as oak, beech, acacia, walnut, mahogany, Karelian birch, ash, elm, yew, and many others that have a beautiful texture pattern. The width of such veneer is limited by the diameter of the trunk. In order to veneer large products without visible joints, the veneer is sewn either manually - low quality, or using a special machine.

In our production, we use exclusively the method of veneer stitching on a special machine. This guarantees the high quality and aesthetics of the final product, since the seams are practically invisible.

The appearance of veneered products is in no way inferior to natural wood, and in some characteristics, such as resistance to deformation and cracking, even surpasses it.

There are three main veneering methods:

  • Vacuum pressing: bonding the veneer to the substrate by creating a vacuum in the veneering area. This method is mainly used for finishing 3D surfaces.
  • Hot pressing: the veneer is glued to the substrate under pressure and high temperature.
  • Cold pressing: the veneer is glued to the substrate using an adhesive that cures at room temperature.

Artistic inlay is a separate method, which involves creating patterns, paintings, and other inserts using elements from different breeds, which are pre-cut with a laser and prepared to give the veneer the desired shade and texture.
